NEW YORK (AP) — Charlie Ergen, the founding father of satellite tv for pc TV firm Dish, is stepping aside as CEO to focus on the corporate’s wireless enterprise.
He will stay chairman. The new CEO, Dish Network Corp. president Erik Carlson, will report to him.
Dish has substantial rights to spectrum, or airwaves that transmit wireless alerts, and says it needs to construct a community for on a regular basis merchandise which have web connections, recognized broadly as the “internet of things.”
Jefferies analyst Scott Goldman says Tuesday’s announcement could also be taken as an indication that Dish will construct that wireless community. The firm may additionally promote or lease its spectrum rights.
Dish’s satellite tv for pc enterprise has been shrinking as customers “cut the cord” on conventional TV.
