Suit: iPhones Apple slowed forced owners to buy new phones

CHICAGO (AP) — Apple iPhone owners from a number of states are suing the tech big for not disclosing sooner that it had issued software program updates intentionally slowing older-model phones so growing old batteries lasted longer.
Lawyers filed a class-action lawsuit Thursday in Chicago federal courtroom on behalf of 5 iPhone owners from Illinois, Ohio, Indiana and North Carolina. They say they’d not have bought newer, pricier iPhones had Apple disclosed that merely changing the batteries would have sped up their older phones.
The 20-page lawsuit accuses Apple of making an attempt “to fraudulently induce consumers to purchase” new phones.
Apple acknowledged in a Wednesday assertion that it launched a repair so batteries would not abruptly die.
